Ingredients
  • 1.25 Cup Gram Flour/Besan
  • 1 Cup Rice Flour
  • 3 tbsp Oil Plus 1/2 Tbsp for brushing
  • 2 tsp Peppercorns Replace with Pepper Powder
  • 1/16 tsp Baking Soda
  • Salt - As Needed Used mix of pink and regular salt
  • Water - As Needed
  • Optional Sesame Seeds
Instructions
How to make Air Fryer Karasev
  1. Sieve gram flour before start making karasev.
  2. In a mixing bowl add sifted gram flour and rice flour.
  3. Add a portion of rice flour and peppercorns to mixie/food processor and grind pepper to coarse.
  4. But for kids sake I always grind it to slight fine powder, also you can replace it with store bought pepper powder.
  5. Add ground pepper with rice flour in to the mixing bowl (Pic 1).
  6. Also add baking soda (Pic 2) and salt to the dry flour mixture.
  7. Now heat oil and pour over the dry flour mixture.
  8. Once you add oil to the flour mixture (Pic 3), it foams.
  9. Stir with ladle and after few seconds rub oil with flour using hand (Pic 4).
  10. Once done the mixture looks crumbly (Pic 5).
  11. Now add water (Pic 5) in batches and mix until it turn into a stiff dough (Pic 6).
  12. If its super moist adjust with gram flour and rice flour of right proportion.
  13. Too moist dough needs long time to air fry or gives soggy karasev.
  14. So make it the right consistency stiff dough like shown (Pic 6).
  15. Grease murukku press with oil for smooth handling.
  16. I have chosen a shape shown in Picture 7.
  17. Insert the karasev dough in to the press (Pic 8).
How to Air Fry Karasev
  1. In Air fryer choose either air fry or roast option and set time for 8 minutes and temperature to 350F.
  2. It gets preheated in less than 2 minutes.
  3. Be ready with the dough ,Once it indicates to add food do pull the basket out.
  4. Immediately squeeze the dough like shown in Picture 10 & 11.
  5. Brush the top of karasev lightly with oil and insert the basket into air fryer.
  6. In the middle of air frying, when its 4 or 3 minutes left to finish, it asks to turn the food.
  7. While turning karasev breaks, that's ok , do turn gently and apply light oil again.
  8. Insert the basket and let it continue air fry for the rest of the minutes.
  9. Once done do check whether its crispy or not if not do fry 1 or 2 minutes more.
  10. For me it was perfect in 8 minutes of roasting.
  11. Yup I chose roast option if you don't have that option use air fry option.
