We went for Apple picking recently, it was too good and kids enjoyed the fun rides. This was our first apple picking experience in our life history and I was not sure what to do with that much apples. So attempted apple Halwa for the first time and it came out super good. The taste and texture was perfect and it reminded my childhood
days :-). I will show what I did with the remaining apples after Diwali / Deepavali Recipes 🙂
The one shown here is Red delicious apples, I have the video tutorial of halwa making at the end of the post. Also don’t skip corn flour it gives shiny, smooth halwa texture with reduced ghee.
Apple Halwa Ingredients
Apple Puree – 3 Cups (From 3 medium size apples)
Jaggery Powder or Brown Sugar- 1/2 Cup
Ghee – 3 Tbsp
Corn Flour or Starch – 1 Tbsp mixed in 1 tbsp water
Chopped Nuts (Cashew, Almond and Pistachios) – 1/3 Cup
Cardamom Powder or even Cinnamon Powder works for this apple halwa – 1tsp
How to make Apple Halwa
- Wash the apples, keep the other ingredients ready.
- Puree the apples once other ingredients are ready (they will oxidize soon).
- Now peel the skin of apples, slice and puree it.
- In the ghee coated pan / kadai add the puree.
- Saute till moisture goes away.
- Add ghee whenever required and add brown sugar.
- After adding sugar it leaves some water let the apple cook with it.
- Later add corn flour mixed with water, and keep stirring for another couple of minutes..
- Adjust sugar right now and add cardamom powder or cinnamon powder.
- The right consistency halwa has to roll and should not stick to the pan.
- Finally add nuts, I have added raw nuts but you can fry in ghee and add it to the halwa mixture.
- Grease any attractive mold with ghee and some nuts then present it as shown in the video 🙂
